I wanted to start this new thing of a 'Mental Health Check In' abbreviated as M.H.C.I. I feel like we live in a very fast-paced world and sometimes it can be easy to forget to just become still, take a break and check in on yourself. So, I wanted to start a M.H.C.I every couple of months just for you to have this post as a reminder to check in on yourself if you haven't already made time to do so.
For the first M.H.C.I I wanted to discuss about the soul-searching journey we all face. I think that the yearning to find who you are and what you were made for is a big soul-searching journey. You are literally putting yourself onto a journey to find and figure out the literal reason for which you exist.
That is a heavy weight to carry in such journey and we spend our whole lives doing so. Looking for who you want to become, understanding why you want to become what your aspiring towards and planning how you can make it your life's reality. To top it all off, it's not an easy journey by the slightest, having to overcome the barriers, challenges, issues, stumbling blocks, doubts, worries and fears that come your way in the process. Then you start to subconsciously race against the next person as you start to feel that you're getting left behind in finishing the journey, which pushes you into auto mode as you try to stay near/at the top and not be the last one to make it out.
It's an ongoing cycle: wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat. Wake, work, search, sleep, repeat and you go on and on and on and on, forgetting there's more to life, becoming incapable to become still to live in the moment and lose the ability to
BREATHE.
Take a step back, become still and breathe. Inhale slowly and exhale slowly. Close your eyes, clear your head, be present in the moment and breathe. It's okay to have this time of rest. Check in on yourself, what's going on in your mind? How are you feeling mentally? If it's not as good as you know it should be, then take this as a warning to take a break and breathe.
Relax your body and reside into a state of mental peace. This is something that you should be practicing as often as you can.
Don't lose yourself in the process of becoming who you were made and called to be.
BIBLICAL REFERENCE
Psalms 139:14 CSB I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous and I know this very well.
God made us perfectly in His image. Our destiny, purpose, life plan, the literal reason for our existence has already been set by God. He made us for a reason. We live life to find the reason and in our journey we are taught to live by the Bible, God’s Word as it is our source of navigation as we search and find out who we are. Though it is very important for us to undertake this journey we must not lose sight of the importance to breathe and rest. Reflect on the progress made so far, plan your next steps according to God’s Will, prepare for the return to the journey, then GO. We must make time to check in on ourselves mentally and give us the time to actually live in the moment that we are in. We are a work of God. Don’t ever forget that so make sure in your time of checking in on yourself and living in the moment, you are spending time with God as you think over all that He has done for you and seek His guidance on all that He still has in store for you. If you want some further information, you can check out my poetry collection 'Soul Searching' under the Portfolio section on my website where you can find 13 written pieces about the concept of soul searching and how to navigate it.
