To Trust in the Lord requires total dependence on His love, His way, His truth, His works and His life. It’s not a half-full trust, it’s not conditional.
Side-tracking here, but you probably have heard of Squid Games, and they made a reality show version that’s available on Netflix called Squid Games: The Challenge. In season 2, there was player 398- Trinity. I won’t give out any spoilers, but I just wanted to quote what he would say- ‘win or lose I still trust you Jesus.’
I love this quote. Win or lose I still trust you Jesus. The heaviness of this statement really just shows that no matter what you may be going through, you must rely on God. You must remember to trust in Him and know that He will help you to overcome the circumstance.
The ability to trust comes from the ability to walk in faith in God. Hardships, pain, suffering- these are all inevitable and life can lead us to seek a short-term solution to overcome them. A short-term fix is only temporary; it can create a cycle of dwelling in sorrow then getting a short-term fix and the cycle continues and continues and continues till the point where all that’s left is us broken in a secular world.
Trusting in God helps us to avoid such cycle.
Yes, hardships, pain and suffering are still inevitable when trusting in God but by His love we have eternal salvation in Him. By His love we know we can go to Him for grace, to seek Him in challenging times and trust in His wisdom to see us through.
TRUST IN THE LORD.
The first branch of TLW, my abbreviated name to thelawdsway.
It’s mentioned in the intro blog on my website that thelawdsway is split into 3: thelaw, lawd and way.
The first branch, trust in the Lord, comes from thelaw. So, spelling out the thelaw creates wealth and my full name Olubusola means God has added wealth unto you. I made it to be that way so that there was a personification aspect of the platform’s name as a token of who I am.
Aside from this, in general trust is the act of believing in oneself and/or another by what they have said and done for and/or towards you. It encompasses the ability to rely on a thing or another person. It’s like rules and regulations, we rely on them to practice fair and just ethics for society by how thelaw has been shaped to be governed. We must show that same reliance unto God and that’s where the Trust branch comes into place. When you trust in God, it is confirmation that you believe in His way, His commandments, His rules, His ordinances, His law.
When we trust in God’s word and speech, we can rest assured that what He says He will do, He will do it; what He said He will provide, He will provide it. Trust in the Lord grants access to a profound level of confidence knowing that God will make a way. It’s not a confidence stemmed from pride and ego but from peace and love.
thelawdsway is founded on James 4:11- Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
In simple terms, thelawdsway is a platform where we grow our relationship with God, without judgement but through confidence. Confidence is not something that can be easily gained. You need to trust yourself, and more importantly, trust God to build up your courage, reverence in Him and faith in His word to live confidently as His child and entrust your life in His hands.
Going back to Trinity’s quote, win or lose I still trust you Jesus. Notice how there was no doubt of there being both good and bad times to occur in life. Notice how there was no fear or hesitance in the quote in understanding that life may bring losses before we can access our wins but in spite of it all we can remain trusting in Jesus to see us through.
I’ll admit, I use to struggle with this concept. It was from the perspective of why would God allow us to suffer and be broken as He is omniscient, omnipotent and omnibenevolent. It was a tough pill to swallow but I soon learnt that sometimes, we have to endure pain and suffering as in doing so, it can help to deepen our trust in God, our reverence for Him as when He comes at the appointed time to help us overcome said period of our life, we understand the magnitude of who He is and what He can do on a greater level than what we thought of before. I say this from life experience and also reading stories from the Bible for example Noah and his Ark and Elijah as he walked to Mount Horeb.
I wanted to specifically speak about 2nd Corinthians 4:7-18 for this episode as these verses is what I feel clearly depicts the image of what it means to Trust in the Lord. When I read this passage, I see God as the Mender of Clay Jars. Verses 7-18 is as follows:
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted but not forsaken; struck down but not destroyed always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So, then death is working in us, but life in you. And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. Therefore, we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
We are the earthen vessels on earth (in other words clay jars). We may feel hard-pressed, perplexed, persecuted, struck down as said in this passage but it’s not the end all. Notice how there is always an alternative to what could have been. The former speaks of losses, but the wins are us not being crushed, in despair, forsaken or destroyed and we gained these wins because we trusted in God to show His works in our lives and see us through these periods of life. How did we acquire such trust? By faith in who God is. As it says in verse 13, ‘I believed and therefore I spoke’ we also believe and therefore speak.’ We believe God, we trust Him to heal the brokenness in us, outwardly and within. It may not happen when we wanted it, but it will occur when we needed it.
We don’t need short-term fixes to see us through, all we need is God because as we deepen our relationship in God, our light affliction of hardships, pain and suffering are for a moment, and incomparable to the exceeding and eternal weight of glory we receive in God for life.
Our trust in God cannot be half-full or conditional. It must be whole and unconditional. It must be present at all times, in all things, no matter the situation, circumstance of event.
In the words of Player 398, win or lose I still trust you Jesus.
May we all forever remain entrusting in Jesus.
Remember, Trust in the Lord, Love like the Lord, Walk with the Lord.TLW
