II messages: II lessons
In this post, I am going to talk about two life lessons: understanding the importance of our past and acquiring the new you.
UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR PAST

Past.
It’s when something has gone by in time and no longer exists. It’s the time before the moment of speaking or writing. It’s something and/or someone belonging to a former time. It’s the history of a person or place. It can be part of a person’s history that is with the prospect of being considered shameful or experience of a better life. It can be seen as too old to be of any use or any good at anything in the present state. It’s the time between the second you were born to the last second of the time that has just passed.
Time.
When you think of the past, you’re thinking of the past time spent. It’s the memories that happened in past moments at specific times and you remember:
1. What you felt at that time
2. The emotions that you were experiencing in that time
3. The actions you behaved by, reacted, and responded to at that time
It’s everything to do with time. That’s why it’s important. Your past reflects every moment of time that you have ever experienced on this earth. With time, it’s the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.
The most time that you would have ever experienced on earth lives in your past. This very second that you’re using to read this post has entered into your past and has added another second onto your life. I know it may seem unnecessary with me mentioning this, but when you really take the time to just think about it, time is the biggest value of life. And this time is what made your past in which you are experiencing its effects in the present day.
Never underestimate the power of time.
Never take for granted the value of time.
Never underappreciate each moment of life that you experience or will experience in time.
TV Show: Sister Sister
This will be a quick side track but it’s relevant to the three 'never' points I just made. So, you may be familiar with the hit 90s TV show called Sister Sister staring Tia and Tamera Mowry. It’s about twins who were separated at birth, each being adopted by a different parent, but they reconnected one day in a one chance encounter at a clothing store in the mall.
At one chance in time, all was changed for the twins. You see how it plays out in season 1 episode 1 of the show. In that one time, by the way this wasn’t a coincidence, in that decision for the twins to separately go to the mall that day and bump into each other, they met the other half of themselves that led to them becoming reconnected and living the rest of their lives together. If that second had gone and they didn’t bump into each other, that moment, that chance would have become a thing of the past.
TV Show: Analogy
Now, why am I saying this? I’d hope for this quick analysis to act as an example of showing you that our time in this life is so important. Once a second of time is gone, it becomes a thing of the past. Though that second could never be outlived again, it will forever become a second of our past.
This is why your past is important.
The time of your past has ineffectively formed the person you are today, irrespective of whether you agree or disagree with this statement, it’s the underlying truth. Every second that passes each day in your life try and live it to the full. I say try because for one, I am in no capacity to tell you what to do with your life and two, I don’t know what you may be going through and experiencing right now.
All I can say is for you to just try because every second of time spent on earth will eventually become a thing of the past. Now with me saying all of which has been said so far, I wouldn’t want you to over push yourself in getting to where you want to be in time. You do not know what life will bring. No one does. What we do know is that all the time from our past will become a memory, or an effect, that we will live through in our present and future.
Use the time that you have for the benefit of yourself personally in pursuit of where you would like to be or at least see yourself getting to. It can be your ambition for tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, in the next decade, in the next century. Whatever it may be just use all of your time. The time I was preparing for this post has become a thing of the past. Now all I can do is reflect on it. There is nothing like ‘oh let me go back and alter this, let me go change that.’ Those actions can only happen hypothetically, it can no longer be an actuality of your present, this reality that you’re living in now.
I should note that the past may not always be a good memory for everyone, and sometimes it was for the greater good for it to be forgotten. Other times it may had been and still can be hard to let go of that past and move on. Going back to Sister Sister and in season 4 episode 19, Lisa- Tia’s mum, gave her a great piece of wisdom about overcoming past pain and past times where you experienced all the negative emotions in which came with it from that moment of time. She said:
‘Sometimes it’s okay to let your past drive you, but you can’t let it drive you away.’
Again, the times measured from our past has made us into who we are today. So, of course in reflecting on certain times from the past, it may have either become a memory that provides us motivation to continue to level up, or a memory of trauma that we have forgotten or at least try to forget. In spite of it all, those moments are still a part of our past, and will forever be, because it’s already happened.
Although it is now a moment of time in our past, I pray any past pain or trauma that you may still be experiencing releases you from its chains so that you can become free again. I hope in that process of attaining that freedom, you see those past times, and, in any time, you think of that moment of your past, be brave to not let the negative connotations from it take over your emotions in your present state, to move you back into that time of feeling and living suppressed by it. I pray that every moment that we spend on this earth turns out good. Even though inevitably we all as individuals are at risk of having to go through battles privately and/or publicly, the time spent overcoming it and pushing through helps us to remember yes, that was a difficult time of our past, but look at us now:
We’re free.
We’re alive.
We’re happy.
We’re at peace.
Our past would be nothing without time.
Time makes each moment of life even more important when we realise the invaluable virtue of time. In effect, it releases the message of how important our past is. And in that release, we understand how imperative it is for us to continuously aim to see and achieve more progression in life with the time that we have. Every stage of progression made becomes a memory of our past. And in every memory, we have the ability to choose to reflect on that moment and continue to move through life.
Take the time to remember to try and understand the importance of your past.
ACQUIRING A NEW YOU

We should not fear when encountered with something new, as this means there’s new hope, new dreams, new opportunities, new experiences, new achievements, new understanding, new knowledge, new wisdom.
You may be nodding your head, as you read this, telling me I’m wrong but deep down you know it’s true. You have been knowing this truth for a while now and rather than admitting it and welcoming this truth with open arms, you’ve decided to back away and dwell in the past failures because you think it’s easier to live through your downfalls than to get up and overcome it. You see when it’s time to overcome an issue, it takes a lot of strength and drive to ensure that you’ve overcome the issue and have built up the endurance and consistency in never allowing yourself to be placed in that situation again.
Why do you or would you let yourself to experience another year of pain and suffering, when you can get up from that sunken place and level up to where you’ve been destined to be?
Experiencing ups and downs are inevitable.
It’s a part of life.
There will be experiences in which you can control the consequences that may arise out of it, and sometimes, it will be beyond your control to provide a solution. Regardless, what you need to do is to have that strength within you to push through those barriers and come out at the other end greater than you have ever been.
These qualities can be a part of the new you, all you have to do is stand in front of whatever fear you may have and embrace it, survive it, overcome it, and learn from it. The something new coming to your life will have a positively powerful impact over you. The something new you that is becoming a part of your life will help you be wisely guided, safely protected, nourished, blessed, healthy, strong willed, focused, loving, successful, happy and at peace.
BIBLICAL REFERENCE
Job 8:7 CSB Then, even if your beginnings were modest, your final days will be full of prosperity.
Galatians 2:20 CSB I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Understanding the importance of your past and acquiring a new you are two aspects of life that you can go through greatly with God by your side. Know that everything that happens in life has happened for a reason. At the appointed time, at God’s appointed time it shall speak and so we need to understand that the things of the past happened accordingly to the Will of God. We may have not fully understood how and why things happened in a certain way or at a certain time but we need to rest assured that God did it for a reason we have now lived to experience or yet to see through. Trust in God and rely on Him with your life, He will not lead you astray without either going through that period of time with you or giving you the tools to overcome that season to get out on the other side. Living life with God means we no longer live in the flesh but in the Spirit. Acquiring this new lifestyle, this new you, are the first steps to a grace bound and beautiful life. It won’t be easy and it is not meant to be easy. Though with God, we will get through everything and anything that may come our way in life. So, let God lead.
Remember, Trust in the Lord, Love like the Lord and Walk with the Lord. TLW
