A person's name steers the outcome of their life.
In my culture, our names given to us by birth comes with its own individual meaning of what, to me, is desired for the life of the child. My name is Olubusola and that means 'God has given you wealth.'
For one assumption, my name would indicate the desire of materialistic, affluential and financial wealth. Whilst financial security and independence is a goal for me, as I've gotten older, the meaning of added wealth has changed over the years.
A snippet from my first blog episode 'INTRO':
When I think of wealth, I think of power, knowledge, and greatness to name a few. For me, wealth is not power through materialistic views and idea, it is power through the mind. When you know who you are, where you want to go and who you want to be- that is your wealth. You have the tools you need to be equipped for anything that can come your way in life;
Wealth is acquiring a sound mind, peace, love, grace, humility, growth, and the gift of knowing who you are and what you were called to be.
That to me is what real wealth is- something that money can't buy. Something that has quite literally been ingrained and instilled into the purpose of my life. When you are called by name, in a way it's like a declaration being made over you and an affirmation as to who you are. When people reference you by your name, it is a direct calling, individually crafted and uniquely related to you to bring awareness to the room of who resides in this place.
That is a given to your name, everyone has one, though when it comes to nicknames or abbreviations or code words others have to call you by, you need to have set boundaries as to what you have allowed them to reference and call you by.
Proverbs 22:1 CSB:
"A good name is to be chosen over great wealth; favour is better than silver and gold."
Be mindful of what you allow others to speak over yourself and what you allow them to refer you by. It may seem like a minor thing but it's important. The power of the tongue is so powerful, once something is said out loud it makes it harder to take it back, if possible. So, words matter. What you speak over yourself and what you allow others to speak over your life matters. Don't let a word or a name spoken over you have the power or influence to affect and impact the outcome of your life.
It may seem that the influence or power will be small or minor to other aspects that affects the outcome of your life, though don't forget that influence and power has the ability to grow. So, what may have started small has the capacity to be at the forefront of your life in how it influences your daily living.
So, for the name you refer to yourself and the name you allow others to refer to you, let it be a name that feeds into the greatness, grace, and success that life has for you.
Let it move you forward and not set you back.
Remember, Trust in the Lord, Love like the Lord and Walk with the Lord. TLW
